Cruising on Mekong - 4 Days

  

 

Itinerary in brief:

Day 1: Saigon - My Tho - Cai Be / Cruise and overnight in boat

Day 2: Cai Be - Sa Dec - Chau Doc / Cruise and overnight in boat

Day 3: Chau Doc - Frontier - Phnom Penh / Cruise and overnight in boat

Day 4: Phnom Penh - Disembarkation

 

Notes: After this cruise of 4 days and 3 nights by Jahan boat, possibility of making land visits in Cambodia, namely the city of Phnom Penh, the province of Battambang, the temples of Angkor in Siem Reap.

 Day 1: Saigon - My Tho - Cai Be - Cruise

Meeting with the Zen Vietnam Travel driver then transfer to My Tho.

Arrival and boarding on the Jahan collective boat. You will be served with a refreshing welcome drink as the boat sets off along the Mekong River. We will bathe in the fading sunset on the balcony, followed by a talk in the living room.


Later a welcome dinner will be waiting for us. Approaching Cai Be, the boat will drop anchor to moor in the middle of the current where the river is several kilometers wide.


Day 2: Cai Be - Sa Dec - Chau Doc

The day begins with an invigorating Tai Chi lesson on the upper deck, as the sun begins to glow softly.


Coffee and tea are waiting for the early bird.


Then, aboard a traditional sampan, you will visit the colorful Cai Be floating market, also discovering breathtaking landscapes along the Mekong River.
The cruise will pause to allow us to observe how rice paste, rice cookies and coconut confectionery are made, with the process of drying Longan fruit. Lunch on board.


The afternoon is reserved for visiting Binh Thanh Island and its artificial canals. Here, every villager is involved in the process of growing and processing water hyacinths, in natural fiber mats and rattan baskets.


We then board the boat to continue the quiet evening cruise to Chau Doc. Overnight in Chau Doc


Dinner and overnight on board.

 

Day 3: Chau Doc - Frontier - Phnom Penh

The day begins with a hearty breakfast.


Then a short excursion to Chau Doc, a pleasant town near the Cambodian border and Khmer communities. You will also visit the colorful local market, near an ancient temple. We will definitely visit schools along the shore and the local Muslim Cham community village.


Then, we'll be back to the boat for an appetizing lunch.


At noon, the boat will stop at the border of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. This is a time to relax on board, sharpen your culinary skills by participating in a field cooking class or touring the boat with our Cruise Director. Overnight on board near Phnom Penh.


Note: the program for day 3 can be changed to suit the rainy season when the water level is higher (between July and December).

Day 4: Phnom Penh - Disembarkation

The early morning river walk reveals a truly indescribable scene as you approach Phnom Penh. Breakfast on board. Your cruise ends. You will disembark and transfer to the city of Phnom Penh.
